Couple lounging comfortably at home

How to keep your Vancouver home comfortable this winter

The coldest temperatures in Vancouver will be here for a while. You may be wishing for summer, but you deserve to be just as comfortable all winter. Your furnace makes this possible, so keep it working well with annual furnace service.

You count on your furnace to keep you cozy in winter. It’s important to keep it well-tuned with furnace service each year. When you take care of your furnace, it will take care of you and keep you comfortable throughout the winter.

If you’ve already scheduled your regular furnace service this year, we’ve pulled together some additional things you can do to be certain your home stays cozy:

  • Have an energy audit — a lot of energy companies will complete an energy audit on your home to help you pinpoint areas that can improve. You’d be surprised how many areas let hot or cold air leak out of your home.
  • Weatherstripping — a great deal of cold air comes into your home every time an exterior door is opened. But did you realize cold air could be sneaking in even when doors are shut? Look at your weatherstripping and replace it if it’s cracked or damaged. There’s a good chance this could block a lot of cold air from finding its way inside your home.
  • Recessed lighting — recessed lighting is one of the most common problems. They may allow a lot of warm air to escape through your ceiling. You can rectify this problem with a little caulk or aluminum tape.

These tips will help a lot, but you can find many more tips to help keep your home comfy and cozy.
